I absolutely loved this class. I got a lot out of it. I will definitely be sharing my information with colleagues. Nik was terrific and very knowledgeable.

I wish that that were able to write out an entire lesson plan for the oral history projects and not just focus on one day. That was the only thing that I would change about the course.

P.S. – I thought that it was very nice that breakfast was provided. I did not expect that. It was very appreciated.

  2. Heather says:

The presentation were a great opportunity to hear the ideas of the other participants in the class. The variety of uses of the primary sources was good to illustrate all the ways they could be used that I may not have previously thought of!

Overall, I really feel a great value from learning about the LOC digital collection. I was unaware of this resource before this workshop and feel it will be of great use in the future.

  3. Bri Rice says:

Everyone did such a nice job! I really liked how Nikki Stephenson’s lesson took a picture with Coca-Cola that depicted racism and how she turned that picture into a research project about racism and how far we’ve come today. It was nice to see the different content areas and the creative ideas.

  4. Teri says:

This class gave me a lot of valuable resources and information that I can use in my classroom. It was very enjoyable.

Today was relaxing and very informative.

After seeing everyone’s presentations today, I realized how similar a lot of our ideas are. I hope I can use some of my classmates’ ideas to make my lesson better. I enjoyed hearing how people incorporated Coca Cola into their lesson.

  7. Stephany says:

The class presentations were effective in proving how primary sources can be used effectively to teach anything. They really provide a better learning experience in allowing students to be totally immersed in their learning experiences. It allows them to create their own perspective.

  8. Jerry says:

Thanks for a great class guys! Lots of good stuff to use in my classes. I really appreciate you expanding my horizons when it comes to the sources available at the Library of Congress. Hope to see you in the near future. Thanks again.

  9. A. Smolenski says:

Today’s presentations offered so many great ideas on incorporating primary sources and oral history projects across all grade levels and in numerous subject areas. My favorite aspect of this workshop was simply learning how to navigate the LOC website and having time to view all of the available resources for teachers.

  10. Michelle says:

I enjoyed listening to everyone’s projects. It is interesting to know how other people have connected the teaching of primary sources and oral history into their classes. I have enjoyed this course and hope to take something like this again.

  11. David says:

I really enjoyed listening to these presentations!! My colleagues in the class really put some serious time and effort into completing their projects!! I will be able to take some of these ideas and take them into my own classroom starting this school year. This class was very interesting. Thank you to the instructors for a great week!!

  12. bryan says:

I enjoyed seeing each other present a summation of their projects. It gives sources and ideas for peer sharing. Also, I found it interesting that there were some associated overlaps, but each individual geared themselves into a differing vein or discipline.

  13. Shannon says:

Today was very interesting to listento my classmates present on their APL. I was surprised how many topics and subject areas could be covered with the LOC and Coca Cola. As a result of listening to the presentations I have alot of ideas that I can incorporate into my future classroom. It was a good class I look forward to more sessions in the future.

  14. Jeanette says:

I enjoyed the summer workshop. It was helpful to see how other teachers would use the Library of Congress website in their classrooms.

  15. ChelsieF says:

I enjoyed seeing the variety of resources used by my peers. I enjoyed the diverse lessons and use of oral history in everyone’s projects. VERY CREATIVE!

  16. Nikki says:

After completing this class, I firmly believe that I will implement these practices into my classroom. I am so excited about designing this APL to use on Martin Luther King Jr. day. I feel that the students will thoroughly enjoy the activites involved with this action plan for learning. I know they will enjoy going out into the community in order to interview someone for their oral history project. I know they will benefit from the IBLM that takes them through every step in the learning process. Thank you for a wonderful class and introducing me to the website, The Library of Congress. I know I will access the primary sources from this site and use them in my classroom.

  19. Dominic G says:

I believe that we had a great group of presentations today and it shows the depth and width of the loc.gov (I know…big surprise but still) in that there are so many resources that can and should be used.

Overall I think that this course was cool and that there are many items that both my co-workers and I can use to enhance our course materials. We will of course field-test the plans first and then they go right on SAS.

I wish all the instructors and classmates the best and have a great summer!

    Peace

Thanks for a great class! Your knowledge and enthusiasm with primary sources and oral history projects has me motivated to incorporate them into my lessons. I feel confident, now, that I can navigate my way through the LOC website and find valuable sources. I also got some great ideas from the class presentations today.

The class has been highly beneficial to me and my class. Between the Library of Congress and the Oral History resources is more than a plus that I can take to my class. I will use all of this in my class and I am happy to have taken the class. Thanks!
